Hand luggage at Beauvais

Liquids must be in containers of no more than 100 ml, inside a 1-litre transparent bag. The number, weight and size of cabin bags are set by each airline.

Most airlines let you take one item of hand luggage into the cabin and carry the rest in the hold, but the weight and number of items vary with the airline, the fare and the destination. The airport asks passengers to keep hand luggage to a minimum.

Watch out for handbags: some airlines count them as an extra cabin item. In that case you will have to choose between your handbag and your cabin bag, or put the handbag inside the cabin bag.

If your hand luggage is over the allowance, you will have to pay a supplement at the airport, at your airline’s desk in the departure terminal. And if you want to get rid of an extra item, tell the staff: once handed over, it cannot be recovered.

Your airline’s rules

Liquids, creams and aerosols

Drinks, perfumes, lotions, creams, gels, make-up, deodorants and hairsprays can go in the cabin if they meet three conditions:

  • each container holds less than 100 ml;
  • the quantity is clearly marked on the container;
  • they all go together in a resealable transparent plastic bag with a capacity of 1 litre and a maximum size of 20 x 20 cm, one per person.

At the security check you will have to take out the bag and present it separately from the rest of your luggage.

Exceptions

The following are allowed, in the quantity needed for the journey:

  • food for babies and young children, whatever the size of the container;
  • medicines you need during the flight, including liquids, gels, pastes or creams, on presentation of the prescription;
  • insulin and syringes for diabetic passengers, with a doctor’s prescription (tell the staff when you check in);
  • liquids bought in the airport’s duty-free shops, in their sealed bag and with the receipt, subject to any limits set by customs at your destination.

Empty water bottles go through security without any problem: you can refill them afterwards in the departure lounge.

Items banned in the cabin

Items that pose a risk to you or to other passengers cannot go in your hand luggage:

  • pointed, sharp or bladed objects;
  • blunt objects or anything that could be used to restrain someone;
  • work tools;
  • self-defence sprays, of any size;
  • in general, any object that could be used as a weapon, set on fire or made to explode.

This list is not exhaustive. Some of these items can go in your checked luggage, and others are only accepted in the cabin under certain conditions. The French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) has a search tool for checking each item: DGAC AirBag search tool.

If a prohibited item is found at security, you will be offered alternatives so that you don’t lose it. We explain them on the security check page.

Before you leave home

  • Check that the size and weight of your bag are within your airline’s allowance.
  • Attach a label with your name, address and phone number, and remove tags from previous trips.
  • Carry only essentials and valuables in the cabin.
  • At the airport, never leave your luggage unattended or accept bags from other people. Unattended luggage may be destroyed and could cost you your flight.
